The District Nurses are highly
qualified nurses who have undergone
further extensive training to enable
them to specialise in providing high
quality care to patients in the
Community.
Home visits are made at the
discretion of the District Nurse and
are usually only made to patients
who are unable to get out of the
house, or have been assessed by the
District Nurse as having a physical
and/or medical problem which
prevents them from attending the
surgery.
The District Nurses also hold wound
clinics and 'doppler' clinics.
Liz Bhoomkar and Agnes Oluwajana
Health visitors are qualified nurses
who have had extra training to work
in the community, helping people to
avoid illness and stay healthy. One
of their main jobs is helping to
make sure children have a good start
in life, so they help parents to
prepare for the birth and visit
afterwards offering advice and
information about feeding, safety
and child development. They can also
offer help to those with
disabilities or mobility problems.
They are available at the Baby
Clinics or you can contact them
directly by Telephone: 554088
between the hours of 9 - 10 am and 4
- 5 pm.
Marie-Lou Breedon
Marie-Lou is available to provide
help and advice throughout
pregnancy. She sees all pregnant
mums regularly during their
pregnancies, both at antenatal
clinics and also at Parentcraft
courses; she will subsequently
follow up after birth with visits at
home.
Trying for Pregnancy? - Our midwife
is available for counselling advice.
Pregnancy - If you become pregnant,
please make your first appointment
with our midwife assistant - Gill -
who will arrange for your referral.
We have a
Community Matron in post with the
surgery at present. The Matron
'case manages' some of our patients
with specific health problems,
helping to set up packages of care
and to help patients avoid upsetting
and sometimes unnecessary admissions
to hospital. The Community
Matron will visit patients in their
own home where appropriate.
We have direct access to
appointments with Physiotherapists.
An advisor visits
surgery
and is available for advice on
Benefits. We recognise the link
between health and wealth and would
encourage people with medical or
social problems that affect their
earning capacity to take up benefits
that they are entitled to.
Please contact the advisor through the main
surgery number 244040.
Appointments can be made via our
reception staff.
A chiropody service is available at
Saltergate Health Centre.
Anyone requiring help with services
or care at home can seek advice and
an assessment through the Social
Services Department.
Tel: (01246) 347777.
If you are enquiring about a
residential or nursing home
placement, please contact the above
number and they will arrange for the
necessary assessments.
